How to Clean an Acrylic Tub

Caring your acrylic tub is easy if you use the right products to clean it. Use natural products like vinegar, baking soda and lemon to clean it gently.

Clean Your acrylic tub using commercial products

Wash the tub with a mild cleanser

A safe and gentle cleanser can help clean your tub. Prevent dirt and germ from building up.

Simply wet a sponge or a soft cloth with antibacterial dish soap and use it to scrub the entire tub.

Completely remove the dirt and soap by rinsing it. Mild antibacterial soap that is used for hand washing your dishes, is gentle enough to regular wash on your acrylic tub.

Choose a safe deep-cleaning commercial product.

Occasionally clean your acrylic tub deeply if you notice hard-water deposits germ which is difficult to wash away with soap and water.

Find a tub cleaner that is safe to use in acrylic by reading labels. You better check with your tub manufacturer for a list of approved commercial cleaners for your tub.

Most of the manufacturers update the list every few years. So, make sure you shop for the latest cleaner available.

Scrub and rinse the tub.

You have to spray most of the commercial cleaning products. When spraying, keep the bottle about 10-15cm from the tub. Let the cleaner stay in your tub for a few minutes.

Fill the tub with hot water and vinegar

Has your acrylic tub stained heavily? Fill the tub with hot water and vinegar that help loosen the dirt and grime before cleaning it.

Use 470ml of vinegar with the hot water and let it stay at least 15 minutes and then drain the tub. The acid of vinegar will help loosen the dirt but not damage the tub


Sprinkle the tub with baking soda

Baking soda can be sprinkled all over the tub when it's wet. Didn’t fill the tub with hot water and vinegar? Okay. just pour water both inside and outside of the tub. Give a few minutes to the baking soda to sit on the tub.

Baking soda works well to clean mold, mildew, and soap scum and it’s very gentle to use in tubs.

You can also use borax as a replacement of baking soda.


Scrub the acrylic tub
Scrub the baking soda by dipping a soft cloth or sponge into water in the tub. The baking soda can form a bit of paste when you clean the tub.

Gently scrub the entire tub and make sure that you’re using a non abrasive sponge to avoid scratch.

Use a toothbrush to scrub corners and edges

If you've got hard to achieve edges or places where the bathtub meets fixtures (like the faucets), get an old toothbrush and scrub the spots. The toothbrushes are gentle enough to get rid of tough dirt and grime.

Rinse the tub and treat any stains with lemon
Find a bucket full of water and pour it over the tub to rinse away the baking soda and dirt. Continue rinsing until the tub is clean.

You can rub half of a lemon over the stains until they lift if you notice stains . Stains should be rinsed with water and wipe them dry with a soft cloth.

Lemon is effective for removing hard-water deposits.

Maintaining Your Acrylic Tub


Clean the tub out weekly
Prevent dirt and grime from building up by getting in the habit of washing down your tub every week with a mild soapy cleanser.

Regular washing can also keep stains from forming in the tiles near the tub and the acrylic tub.


Avoid using rough sponges and clothes

Do not use the materials that scratch the tub surface. Avoid abrasive sponges or scrubbing pads. Also avoid steel wool to prevent damage on the surface.

You’re recommended to use microfiber or terry cloth towels.

Rinse the drains thoroughly

You may have to use a drain cleaner every once in a while. Do not leave a cleanser or clog remover in the drain area, it might damage the acrylic surface.
